Apple and Poppy Seed Cake

This cake is for all you poppy seed lovers out there!

Ingredients

Upper layer:

- 1 cup flour (140g) - 1/2 cup sugar (100g) - 100 g butter

Poppy stuffing

- 200 g of finely ground poppy seeds

- 1 packet vanilla sugar

- 1/2 cup milk

- Grated lemon peel

- 100 g chopped nuts

- Sugar to taste

Apple stuffing

- 1 kg green apple

- Sugar to taste

- Cinnamon and raisins if you like

- 50g butter

Bottom dough layer

- 300 g flour - 200 g soft butter

- 1/2 cup sugar (100g) - 2 egg yolks

- 1 Bag of vanilla sugar (9g) - Bit Cognac / Brandy

Start with the Upper layer: mix flour, sugar and butter (cold)

Form dough and put in the freezer for half an hour.

Make the Poppy stuffing: mix poppy seeds with the vanilla-sugar and the lemon peel. Boil the milk and gradually pour to the poppy while stirring. Add sugar according to your taste.

Make the Apple stuffing. Peel and grate the apples, drain them and mix with sugar. Add raisins and Cinnamon.

Cook in butter until the apples soften.

Make the bottom dough. Mix chopped cold butter with flour, 2 eggs and sugar.

Make a ball with the dough kneading with your hands.

Flatten the dough on the bottom of a greased round backing pan. Spread the poppy mix on the dough layer. Spared above it 100g chopped walnuts.

Spread the apples mix. Grate the dough from the freezer on top of the apples. Bake for about 30-40 minutes at 180C (350F).

Serve warm with some vanilla ice-cream.
